Contact us Easter is one of the most majestic holidays in Ukraine, when an inspiring spirit soars in the air. People are full of happiness as it is a day when the death was defeated, and a time when the nature starts blooming and children’s laughter is being heard far and wide.
However, Easter has a deep symbolic meaning for Ukrainians, that’s why people prepare essentially to it. This is a sacred time of preparation. Christians go to church to confess and cleanse their souls. Then they compose Easter Eggs called “pysanka” which is absolutely indispensable feature of Ukrainian Easter. Both young and old day after day decorate eggs in a variety of patterns. All these decorations have sophisticated connotations with an ancient origin. Some people in Ukrainian Carpathians mountains embroider towels and napkins, which are used for coating Easter baskets full of fruits, vegetables and traditional Easter dishes.
When the day of Easter comes, holiday spirit fills everyone and everything. It starts with solemn liturgy and family meetings. Then it is a beginning of “hayivky” – festival of spring songs, games and dances. A lot of people come to take part in this Easter merriment which you can attend only once a year. Children and teenagers run and play with pouring water on each other, especially trying to catch the girls. This inimitable atmosphere continues long time after Easter.

Friday- is day of crucifixion of Jesus. This day is special for Christians - the most mournful day in the year. Participate holy way of Jesus. This way include 14 stations and every stop means some moments of Jesus`s way to Calvary. In the end will be common pray and gratitude Jesus for expiation of sins.

Ukrainian women always bake traditional cake of Easter ( in Ukrainian Paska). This is symbol of resurrection. Discover all secrets of preparation of Paska. Try to bake your little Paska. This process is long, but very interesting and exciting. Recipes are being passed from mother to daughter.
Cook another Ukrainian dishes - jellied meat, stuffed cabbage roll (holubtsi) and different salads.
Draw the chimerical pattern on the egg and embellish your basket. In traditional basket there is Paska, butter, salt, ham, Pysankas, candle and on the basket is periwinkle.
Congratulation! You are ready for consecrating of Paska (Easter).
An old tradition still lives in some villages to consecrate Paska cake and food during a night Mass. All locals go to the church with their baskets and listen the Holy Mass.
Hundreds of peasants stay around the church and pray.
Just imagine how around sway whole darkness and all people set fire to the candles. This miracle atmosphere will always be in your heart.
After consecration feel the presence of Jesus in your soul and say "Jesus Resurrected!"
In the morning have a delicious breakfast with a local family and taste Paska cake. Then it is time for joyfulness with songs, dances and exciting games during folk tradition called "Hayivky".
The last day in the mountains enjoy the greatness of the forests, rocky precipices and rapid rivers.
